I posted this in the landscape forum too...no one had an answer...hope someone here will.

I found a good deal on a pn 11 extension tube..only $100 in mint condition and I would like to get into some macro work. I'll be using d80 and 50mm 1.4, and a 70-300zoom with it. What kind of magnification would i expect? I understand there is no metering with it or is there spot metering? Is it worth the investment?
thanks!

Hi Emogirl, that sounds way over priced to me! I picked up a set of 3 for -if I remember correctly- $11 + shipping on ebay.

I don't know off hand what magnification you'd get but I can make a 1" spider about 4" on a 4"X6" print using a 70-210 zoom with an N90s.

For about $125 S&H you can get an automatic set of 3 from Kenko which will auto-everything I think. http://cgi.ebay.com/Kenko-Auto-Macr...1QQihZ010QQcategoryZ30059QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Or if you don't mind manual focus and exposure you can get a set for $19 S&H

I have the manual set (11mm, 18mm, 36mm) and use a push pull zoom for ease of focus (changing focal length changes the focus point too) because I tend to use mine hand held and having 2 ways to focus is nice.

Thanks guys...the nikon one sells for well over $200 cdn, new...it has tripod collar for easy switch to vertical shots, plus its a much stronger build than the kenkos but no auto exposure... certainly a plus with the kenko set of 3....

thanks
