Nice background. Very hard time of day for lighting with the squinting. Its so hard when you can;t pick the time! Good job. I htink if you had moved him over to the left some more you could have still gotten that same background landscape but the shadow would be out of the frame. Good job.

Yea, 5pm is horrible. He also didn't want to listen to me or my mom, so shooting pictures of him was very difficult to say the least.

Not bad at all, but this would have been a good setting to have shallow depth of field. Otherwise, the background, although very pretty, is a bit busy and competes with the subject.

shot it with my 17-40 f/4 @ f/4. In the larger version it is easier to see that it's shallow, but I agree, not shallow enough.
