I'd like too see if these shots a strong or a poor effort as it represent the type of photos, of this type, I have taken up till now. I know getting a good position is very important at such things but could I do better camera wise. What I found hardest to overcome was that even though the corner was the same and the cars came in quick succession the light conditions changed so rapidly I couldn't compensate. Any tips.

Chose a location that has better light.
If anything it would be better to have the car coming out of a dark background into direct sunlight instead of the other way around like you have here.

Using a corner and set up where the camera metering will have the most difficulty dealing with the dynamic range in the scene isn't helping these photos or the situation where the light is changing rapidly.

Shooting action sports I often used aperture priority and auto ISO. I then kept a close eye in the viewfinder on what shutter speed the camera selecting.
When the light got so dim the auto ISO maxed out and the shutter speed was getting to slow I knew I had to add light (flash) or stop shooting.

I will try be more aware of what you suggested. I don't have a monopod and shoot hand held would this have any affect
