I didn't have any luck with (photographing) birds this weekend - saw lots of species, but they were all mocking me from the tops of trees. Only got these two cuties with an unfortunate suburban background:

This guy hunting for worms:

And this thing - that looked bitey. I've never seen one like this before! He was about 2.5" long, for scale:

Looks like a Apheloria virginiensis - as I recall they actually secrete a cyanide compound as a defense mechanism. But they look cool.. lol. Great shots Civchic.

Thanks for the ID! Sounds like a pleasant fellow, I'm glad I didn't touch him. :)

Well there are more than a few millipedes that are poisonous but like most spiders and snakes most of them don't pack anywhere near enough wallop to seriously harm a human being. Usually your looking at some minor skin irritation at best. Not that I generally pickup or handle millipedes as a general rule you understand... lol. My general rule is if it's outside let the icky bug go where the icky bug is going. If it's inside, well that's why I have shoes.

You and I have similar theories towards bugs - with one caveat. Any bug that's walking around with blazing flourescent racing stripes like it doesn't give a crap WHO sees it, is generally someone that should not be messed with.

Funny isn't it, how most things that are brightly colored orange in nature are things you just don't want to mess with - much like warning signs on the interstate. Lol
