Really Love the Highlight Compression on the Fuji in camera processing

Basically in camera I set it at DR400 (which gives two steps of dynamic range expansion), Highlights -1 and shadows +1 with the classic chrome setting. At first you might think "what's the point of dynamic range expansion if you're going to then deepen the shadows?"

This combo I really feel like nails the way 70s era color reversal films handle highlights, that nice compression, almost like a creamy guitar tone wailing on the high end. Adding the shadows +1 really deepens the blacks like film, and the combo of DR400 and highlights -1 gives a near perfect in camera rendering of a film reaction to highlights.

While I always liked Nikon's active D-Lighting, I think this nails it a million times better.

also, if you look at the blue on the celeing of the porch, that looks like a film grain simulation, a really good one, IMHO. It's not. That's the way that the X-Trans sensor shows noise, which to me is actually pretty pleasing. The random (as opposed to bayer) color filter really makes a difference, IMHO, in the character of the noise, making it more like a very good grain simulation than digital noise.
