Reflect & Respite

Taken Friday, just before my interview to be a paid photographer here on campus. I was trying to calm my nerves by doing what I consider my comfort zone, macro. I honestly wasn't looking to make any great images, but a couple came out up to snuff.

I like both of these shots.
The first one has nice colors and an interesting subject but I feel like the picture as a whole would be more interesting if the DOF was a little larger and more of the fly's body was in focus.
I think you nailed the second one though. Great colors and the fly is even more interesting to look at. This one, to me, has a perfect DOF.

#2 is the stronger shot, in my opinion, on the basis that it shows the eye in a more-or-less metalic appearance. The focus is on the fly, and the flower is in a supporting role. In #1, the colours of the flower are somewhat overpowering the fly, and the DOF on the fly is less than ideal.
