I have to admit, White Pockets is a surprisingly difficult place to photograph! The geology is absolutely stunning, but it difficult to capture accurately. Here are a few of my best from the weekend. C&C please!

Thanks again!

I will C&C more closely tomorrow but I agree about locations like this. So many interesting textures, leading lines, subtle colors, etc. Its almost a composition overload and really hard to find those strong elements that stand out!

Carry some speedlights, a couple of 8' light stands, and a couple of 45" umbrellas?

#1 I like the rock wave, and the coloring. But the reflection isnt doing anything for me. I would crop it long and remove most of the water.
#2. this water again isnt doing anything for me, and consequently would like a stronger foreground. perhaps lower angle?
#3. I like this one best. I dont shoot black and white, but I really like the comp on this one. I do like the water and the reflected clouds. As well as the way the right side flows into the photo and provides a good depth.
#4. Its a nice strong line and interesting tree against the sky, but a bit too much space in the mid ground for me. Very pleasant though.

some HDR might work nicely in some of these locations

Or at least blending a couple of exposures.

IMO, none of the posted shots have enough dynamic range to justify HDR.

I think kmh is right about HDR

You could use a high pass filter in PS to make the rock pop a bit more in #1
