There was some markings on the sides, but nothing legible.
Probably some rich landowner of the area who enjoyed hunting...

It's a hot debate though many think that there might well have been a Robin Hood; although the part about giving to the poor might be made up. The point about the Evil King is also generally considered a bit stretched since he was mostly raising ransoms to pay for the "Good" king who got caught fighting in the Crusades (a couple of times as I recall).

Some also think that others might have taken the name as well so there could well be a couple of Robin Hoods dotted around - but like a lot of history putting together fact from fiction is very tricky.

True, although I think there is a bit more evidence for Robin Hood - or at least potential characters to have been him. Arthurian Legends sadly suffer a lot from being in the Dark Ages where it wasn't backward times, but is a period where there is very reduced written evidence in the archives (this is right after the Roman era where everything got written down and recorded - which is why we know a lot about them = comparatively speaking). So a lot of Arthurian info just isn't there beyond the myths and legend.
