Rocky Start?

I was shooting some tiny flowers in my gravel driveway and focused a bit too far beyond the flowers. Seemed like a neat shot. I think I like it...what do you think?

Is the green distracting? I think maybe it highlights the rock...

I hate to be "that person." The guy that bumps his post when no one comments. But I really would like some thoughts on this picture. I kinda like it, but then maybe I'm completely off. Thoughts? Bueller? Bueller?

I'm not sure what to say. The effect of the foreground be deeply out of focus is interesting. But the resulting subject itself is lacking. If an arachnid were on the rock, that might be different. I don't know what that is there ... a stick?

Yes, unfortunately it's just a stick The subject was intended to be the rock and the texture of the rock. Plus, I think what interested me was that it almost seems to me like a tilt-shift photo of much more massive rocks and a log rather than gravel and a stick...

I'm still searching for the subject. Is it the light-colored rock? The dark-colored rocks? The stick? Whatever that green blob is?

The subject was intended to be the light colored rock, but I guess that didn't come across I suppose a photo is like a joke...if it requires explanation, it's just not as good

Would have preferred without the OOF leaves in the foreground, but I get what you were going for. Unfortunately, I don't find rocks very interesting (unless they are enormous and multicolored like the Valley of Fire in Nevada).

I get it and actually, I kinda like it. I agree, if a spider or small bug of some sort were on the rock it might be better, but to me it gives the sense of peeking into a closed world. The OOF leaves give the sense of an outer covering surrounding something unknown and mysterious and you found an opening and managed to get a sneak peek inside.

I don't find myself looking for any one particular subject. I just see that little peek into some secretive little world, as if it's the first time anyone has ever seen it.

Yes! That's it! That certainly wasn't done on purpose when I took the picture, but that pretty well sums up why I think I found it interesting. It sounds like most don't concur, but it's good to know I'm not just crazy

This photo shows how that lens "images" or "draws", at that f/stop, at that distance, in that kind of lighting. This photo has some interesting LENS characteristics....it's fun to see how a lens renders out of focus foreground objects, the focus zone, and then the transition to background out of focus zones...all that stuff is just the "technical" or "nuts and bolts" part of photography and imaging. This photo has some neat close-up types of imaging details, but the subject matter does not really elevate it to much more than a mildly interesting "exercise". I mean...it's got some qualities, but it'd be the ugly stepsister if it was a girl in a cotillion dance line...

Nah, you ain't crazy. I'm just not jaded with vast quantities of technical knowledge yet At this point I can simply look at it and tell you if I like it or not!
