Rose in the rain

Well, our 2 day summer was over today! Warm Temps and Sun were replaced with cool temps and RAIN!

Out of sheer boredom and the need to do something creative, I rushed outside during a major rainstorm to grab One Photo before I got drenched and without ruining my camera. As I started to do my editing of the photo I decided to change it from a color photo to a Black and White photo. I think that one photo turned out rather nicely.

Suggestions are Always Welcomed! I cropped it this way so that I could see more of the detail of the rose and water drops, plus to get back to the rule of thirds.
I didn't take too much time to grab the shot because the rain was pouring down and I didn't want to ruin my Canon 7D by getting it drenched. I mainly just got down on the level of the rose, quickly gained focus and snapped the One and Only photo, then rushed inside to dry off the camera and myself.

in my opinion get rid of the dead open space at the top and it will be perfect but otherwise its beautiful

I added a little more contrast, to really boost the whites to white, as i think they are a little grey in the original. Granted, i was working with an already converted image, so that limited my ability to tweak contrast.

Thanks butterflygirl! I love these forums! I really liked the photo with the top cut off, but all the other forums were saying that they didn't like the photo because the rose was too high on the photo. So I changed it to what everyone else said was right. Then you come along and agree with me and my first edition photo! Thanks! You reaffirmed that I was right the first time and that I should go with what I liked first!

I like what you did! The first one is indeed a bit to soft! As you see in my second photo I added more contrast to the photo too. It just goes to show, even if you think something is great, it can always be improved on in some matter! Thanks for taking the time to assist me in adjusting the photo to make it look better!
