Route 353 Center Street Bridge in Salamanca Closed

This bridge was closed down to vehicular and pedestrian traffic on January 18, 2008, since it's closure there has been nothing but complaints, wich is understandable it is a major bridge. However I can't get any straight information on it so....a quote and some pictures.

SALAMANCA — After the closing of a major arterial bridge Friday, members of the Common Council were met with angry and outraged citizens, one even dressed for the part. A resident of the northern part of the city that has been isolated took off his coat to reveal a white tee shirt with “Center St. Refugee” emblazoned across the front.

From what I can gather this bridge was slated for repair or replacement in 1992, however I know the city had just reasently at the time replaiced Main Street bridge and funding was likely limmited.
