I brightened the image with its mouth open. How do you like that?

(imho) the bird is underexposed because of the bright white surrounding snow. In Ps or similar program, I would select the bird only and adjust the levels center slider to bring up the mid tones of the bird and then the far right slider to boost the birds overall brightness while leaving the snow alone. Your shot has the potential of being an award winner.

Yep as mentioned above mask the bird and brighten him up independently, but nice shot.
