I took the Nikon 105 mm 1.4 out for a spin for the first time tonight. I actually spent most of my time in post trying to remove freshly cut hair from his face, that we couldn't even see in person. It may be fairer to say that we just didn't notice the hair, though.

Lighting is good, but I would suggest framing him in a way that isn't so boxed-in and shows more of his neck, placing his eyes closer to the top of the frame rather than in the center.

Thanks Dan. Part of my workflow now is asking myself, "WWDS?" or "What will Dan say?". It has helped me a ton. Is this a better crop?
