oh the power of steel has supported our lives for so long only to be destoryed by rust. Looks like nature has started to reclaim this.

Interesting subject, but I think I would have simplified it by taking a shot of either the plain steel on the left, or the chain(?) on the right. That way the image is much more simplified. I prefer simplified images when they are a bit abstract like this, but then, that is just me and my biases. My 0.02¢ FWIW.

I liked it very much; the dark space of separation gives a punch to the image!!! (if more rust was there the punch would have been even more)

Yeah, I thought of that ... but just one or the other did not feel strong enough to carry the image ... possibly if there were more chain links.

Frequency ... PhotoBucket has changed the colour hue from the original, it should be redder.

Did you remember to assign the image with an sRGB profile for web display??? Maybe that's why it looks not quite right when served up by Photobucket. On a number of server sites, it seems that ONLY the originally-uploaded image size will be served with its intended color characteristics, and all other subsequent re-sized images served will appear somewhat flat and lower in contrast, and with weak color. At least that's my experience.

I kind of like this image, but I wish the chain link belt had a bit more room on the right side, to give it more space in which "to exist". It's an interesting chain link belt, and it appears quite massive. Its sheer size leaves me wondering what the heck the machine is.

Photobucket ruins pictures! I posted in a thread of mine showing a huge difference between photobucket and flickr. Photobucket had a drastically softer image with a blue cast.

It's not Photobucket that has the issue, it's your colorspace as Derrel already mentioned.

What comes from Iron Oxide will return to earth as Iron Oxide, so is the cycle of life. I have a particular affinity for metal, did ya know? ;)

I think it was part of the pulley mechanism to lift water flow gates for power generation.

The devil in me loved it turn more rusty:evil:

But Trever1t's philosophical explanation is my excuse to be an angel ;)

To talk in normal terms, i liked it very much this time :D

It looks much rustier with the sRGB info ridin' with the file!!! The color looks so much more accurate in the updated image file. Thanks for posting an overview shot of the setting where the original image was made...that site looks quite interesting, like an old, abandoned small water control project. There's just...something...about places that are old and abandoned and which have fallen into disuse...thanks for posting.

Looks good with the correct profile. I might partially desaturate the green and clean up a few white flecks.

Actually, I like the green ... contrast with red.
I do not tend to alter the content of my images ... I come from the days of film ... though with the tools available today I am tempted to do so.

Historical info:

1851: John WALTER built the first sawmill in the south, upriver, branch of the Big Head
river now called Walter’s creek on the 300 acres he bought the previous year which is now the hamlet of Walter’s Falls.

1984: The Walter’s Falls sawmill was destroyed by fire. A large crowd watched the blaze of the 90 year old wood constructed mill. The light of the fire could be seen from as far away as Chatsworth.
