Bought a Samsung Galaxy A17 cellphone and tried out the camera. It has three lens; wide, medium, macro. IMO, it is just mediocre in quality. Not as sharp as my Canon SX720 or Canon T6i /w 15-85mm lens. Below are the best I could get on this mornings bike ride. The color is good, but the sharpness isn't there. Photos cropped then reduced by 50% disguises the softness. These are 12meg camera pics. To be fair, I'll have to try the 50meg camera and macro at another time.

UPDATE: I tried the 50meg camera and results were no better than pics previously posted below. Disappointing.

Darth Vader Vampire Fly (at least to me)

The black horse fly (Tabanus atratus) is one of the largest biting flies in North America, reaching up to 1.5 inches in length. Female black horse flies are notorious for their highly painful bites. Only females bite, requiring a blood meal from large mammals or humans to produce eggs.

Giant Luna Moth beat up and can't fly. Probably already laid her eggs and finished her mission.

Your findings are pretty much expected from a budget phone camera. Color is where Samsung does well across all their devices but sharpness and detail when cropping just cannot compete with your Canons. The 50mp count is misleading on budget phones, more megapixels on a small sensor with a budget lens just gives you a larger soft image not a sharper one. For nature and macro work stick with your Canon setup. If smartphone camera quality ever becomes a priority the Samsung S series or Google Pixel would be a meaningful upgrade over the A series.
