Secure Geotagging

Hi there,

I am sure many of you geotag your photos. But, are you not concerned about Privacy while posting them online (Flickr etc)? Do you strip off the geotags before you post? Would you be interested in secure geotagging where the location is only visible to you and selected others? I wanted to find you if there's enough interest in such a solution.

I'm not sure there is really a problem. The only tag that would really bother me is my home. Beyond that, I don't really care if people know where a photo was taken. I have automatic geotagging turned off on my iPhone by default. I'll turn it on, specifically, if I want to have it turned on, say when I'm on vacation, or on a hike or something like that. Personally, I think the benefits outweigh the slight privacy issue. I think it's pretty cool that people can look at a photo and find out exactly where it was shot. It's great for inspiration. I've discovered new shooting locations as a direct result of geotagging. Maybe I'm in the minority? As long as you're careful, it shouldn't be much of an issue.

I guess for me, I don't really see a privacy issue, beyond posting a geotagged photo at your home. And as long as you're careful, this shouldn't be a problem at all.
