Could you explain why the image has that effect?

I'm wondering what this would look like turned over? IOW: some pleasing compositions have the darker elements at the bottom (more weight at the bottom) and the lighter elements at the top. By the same reasoning, lines that rise to the right are seen as being more "positive" than lines rising to the left. Since there is good balance overall, I think you should try it to see how it looks.

I fell like the focus should be on the shadows themselves but it seems to be on the concrete, which makes the shadows blurry and causes my eyes to strain to try and make it look right.

Thanks for responding. The shadows are on the same plane as the concrete, so they are both in focus, but I guess what you're saying is that the concrete appears sharper than the shadows and that bothers you. I see what you mean and I suppose I could make the image less sharp overall, which would pretty much affect only the concrete and that would give it a more (for lack of a better word) "dreamy" feeling. I'll try some modifications in that direction and see how I feel about them. Thanks.
