Is this Dress Kimono of Japan or Cheongsam of ShangHai ?

It's a cheong saam from Hong Kong. We met there back in 1978 and married there in '79. It was actually made to measure for a friend who later, back in England, gave it to my wife as she (the friend) had put on too much weight. My wife is a very good with a sewing machine and altered it to fit herself.
