Shooting for Calendars

I'm wondering how I go about getting my name/pictures out to potential clients.

I'm okay with getting weddings, portraits etc. But I want to get some freelance stuff or even sell some pictures to Calendars, Magazines etc.

Do you guys have any tips. I don't really know where to start.

Check out the 2006 Photographer's Market. You should be able to get it at a bookstore, amazon, or maybe your public library. It has a really huge listing of publications/galleries that are looking for photos, what they're looking for, and tips on promoting yourself.
