Have any of you guys used TheShutterbug.com to buy camera or equipment? I came by it and it has slightly cheaper prices than everywhere else and I was just wondering if it's safe?

-and-

My price limit is about $1000 for a camera.

I was originally saving up for a Canon Rebel t3i package for $919
Which includes:
Canon EOS Rebel T3i Body
Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Type II Zoom Lens

Eyecup Ef (not shown)
Wide Strap EW-100DBIII
USB Interface Cable IFC-130U
AV Cable AVC-DC400ST
Battery Pack LP-E8
Battery Charger LC-E8
EOS Digital Solution Disk and Instruction Manuals
"Great Photography is Easy" Booklet
"Do More with Macro" Booklet
Transcend SDHC 16 GB (Class 10 ) Card (Value 59.95)
Kenco (Hoya)
Protective UV 58mm(Value 15.00)
Deluxe Pro Padded and Water Resistant Gadget Bag (Value 29.95)
3 Piece Lens cleaning kit (Value 6.95)
LCD Screen Saver (Value 6.95)

Canon 1 Year Parts and Labor USA Warranty

BUT:

I came across a Canon 60d with Kit lens for $1000 and I was wondering if I should get that instead. All the comparisons I have read said that the 60d "won".

However I hear that the t3i handles video a little better and I would probably be doing a lot of video (although they both shoot in 1080p). + I'd be getting the whole package.

I will be taking a lot of pictures of horses and riding, and probably my dog and maybe just other things I find fun. I'm not planning on doing photography for anything more than a serious hobby :)

I have a T3i and I love it. I love the flip out screen a LOT. The 60D has one as well so that is not such a consideration. It seems like you get about everything you need to get started with the T3i and when purchasing the 60D you will need to also pick up the other things listed. The good thing about getting the 60D and purchasing the things you need is that you can take your time and get exactly what you think you need. With the T3i package you may be getting stuff you don't need so much like the eye cup. If you already have the SD card and filter and other "essentials" in the T3i package then I would just get the 60D.

If you plan on doing a lot of video then I would probably go with the T3i. I LOVE the way the video comes out on mine. Very crisp and clear. If you are just planning on doing this as a "hobby" I don't see how the T3i could let you down. Of course I do not know as much as TwoTwoLeft about photography probably, but I like my camera =) Good luck. I do not think you will be disappointed with either one.
