Ok anyone please let me know honestly did I make the wrong choice I just bought this lens 400 dollars shipping included. The seller represented a DG but I don't believe it is Im a little put out about that but I have no control now that I bought it. Being misrepresented to start with I might leave negative feedback depending what the seller will do to compensate me. Here is my dilemma very very little is reviewed about this lens by the pro s is it a good macro. at the time I have no prime macro well a 40 mm but I use my 18/270 tamron with macro tubes and it works pretty good. Will this lens work well anyone with the SIGMA 180MM f 3.5 please chime in. I don't think there is really a big difference between the non dg and the DG . I don't find enough about the lens , I read one review and it might be bias. Please let me know if this lens is good or sucks be honest I will sell it for what I paid if its no good. Thanks

Thanks bud that is the one and only review ive read. I see it says it looses some sharpness after f16 and I think if it is crapy ill resell it for what I paid . I cant see selling it for 400 would be very hard. I am fussy if the pictures arnt tac sharp . I use mostly manual I do like the idea I could get a 2x teleconverter and it would go to say f7 but its then about 580mm on a asp c sized camera. Moon shots m ight be really good. Please anyone else with a link for the 180 mm f3.5 macro show me please thanks kelly

Hmm, for less than $400.00 ... I think that is a steal even if it is not the DG.

You might read some thoughts about the A-mount version: Alpha A-mount and E-mount lens database

It appears to be rated as good as the Sigma 150mm macro that I have, and it is very sharp all over.

In Sigma language "DG" stands for "fullframe" ergo the lens will mount on a camera with a 35mm sensor/film. Far as I know they never made any other 180mm barring the new OS edition so chances are its identical to the DG edition; it was just made in a time prior to sigma naming it DG.

edit - the review linked earlier also states that between the non and the DG editions the optical formula remained the same. So it is the same lens inside the DG was just repackaging it.

The 180mm Sigma Macro is like all sigma macro lenses which is to say great lenses. About the only short fall is that they are oft a touch slower with auto focus than own brand options; not really a problem for macro since most macro photography is done in manual focus anyway.

I've a 150mm and 70mm macro lenses from Sigma and never had any problems; heck the 70mm I think is a touch sharper at f2.8 than my MPE 65mm macro (which is a 100% macro only lens).
