My CC is this. Do you think it is a good photo if the water was not silky? I find a lot of people who try to do silky water worry too much about the effect but not the composition or the subject.

That's very true. More often than not when we are trying something new we tend to forget the basic in effort to achieve the new skill.

I wondered from the title what you could possibly have meant, but yes, I think that is the perfect description.

...or he was practicing to get that effect, so now that he learned it, he will apply it to a better photo composition.

My CC on comments.....I don't think he said "here....look at my good perfect photo"..more often than not, people assume that every photo should be perfectly framed...composition in mind, even practice photos.

Many of us share our "practice" photos you know folks....

To the OP, now that you learned how to do silky water, use that and post up your shots applying that new learned skill. also, it would help if you actually put your thoughts on your photos and what you want in terms of C&C, other than just posting a pic with a one or two word title.

whats with you guys today? :-(

My eyes are being drawn to silky water in too many different parts of this photo.

I could be way wrong, but I just assumed that since it's a crap photo, it was a practice shot and he just wanted to share that he captured the silky effect. I remember when I was first learning how to do it, I was very excited as I thought it was a hard thing to do. Looking back it's funny to recall my experience and excitement.

The silky water effect was a success, but the composition isn't. The piece of tree trunk with those sucker shoots detract rather then add to your image.
