fixies can be fun with no hills or traffic, but i am one for gears. many many gears.
however, both my main rides right now are single chainring front and 8 speed rear.
the only problem with switching to single/free is you either need horizontal drop-outs or a rear derailleur to use as a tensioner.
you can get flip/flop hubs so you can run fixed on one side, then flip the wheel and run freewheel on the other.
but running freewheel with no brakes = death. or just stick your vans in the rear tire. went through many pairs of shoes that way. lol
