~ SNAPPY DRESSER ~ This is a large Snapping Turtle that I rescued from a roadway last evening. She wasn’t particularly happy about my effort to get her back to safety and out of the travel lane of the roadway. She repeatedly raised high on all four legs to make herself look larger and more menacing to me, snapping with her efficient jaws with lightning speed in a most threatening manner. As I attempted to circle around her so that I could grab her by the tail, she moved to maintain a face-on position toward me. I did manage to grab her tail and remove her from the road to a more safe location. Most of these big snappers on the move are females searching for sand soils in which to deposit their eggs for incubation.
I have always viewed these reptilians as a tie to the prehistoric times when much larger reptiles roamed the earth.
Cheers,
Mike
