That's sort of the way I feel about most landscapes; perhaps my enjoyment of this is just personal.

Looks 1-2 stops underexposed to me. With all the white snow the camera will normally underexpose. I've always enjoyed these types of photos

Actually, the day was really heavily overcast - and as close to a medium grey day as it could be.

Looks like an excuse to show some love for the camera...not that I'm jealous or anything.

This is an interesting point really when you think about it. Do we recreate reality, which might look typically 'wrong' (underexposed in this example) or aim for what others would most likely expect? I see a lot of shots over-saturated, in my opinion. Others, in comparison are quite muted but probably reflect the conditions on the day.

There is a tendency to over-zap images in software before sharing them. Personally I think it makes sense to take what's quite dull and make it more eye-catching without looking significantly overcooked.

Reality is overrated.
I want my pictures to look like what I see in my mind's eye.
To be intent on recreating reality exactly as it is seems to me to be a step or two up, but on the same ladder, as taking pictures of someone else' art.

wonder how many can tell the difference between brightness and exposure, or dlight in some cases. Can be difficult. Can have a perfectly exposed photo look dim from brightness levels

Hear hear ... I have some stuff up on the walls ... that got ... well, pretty much blown to pieces on this very board (and probably rightfully so, artistically), in fact by SOME people on this very thread (LEW!!!! )

but that have special memory for me about the moment I took the shot.
