What is the best software for cropping/cutting out people from a digital image and being able to drastically increase the size of the cropped image? For instance, I would like to crop out a person from a digital image that is 3600 pixels wide by 2500 pixels high and print that person at about 3'-4' tall for a poster board. Is it Photoshop or something else? Please provide the exact version that you recommend .

By the way, the camera used is a Canon IS, not a DSLR. Will the resolution be difficult to manipulte at these large print sizes?

Thanks in advance.

software: GIMP for example. version dependent on your computer platform, OS etc.

tools : 'intelligent-scissors' + 'smooth edges'

your source image : the figure is almost 2500pixels tall?
you require a cut-away figure shaped board or will you impose onto a rectangular board?

if you're yet to take the pic..the greater the contrast between the figure and the
background, the easier and cleaner to cut-out the figure from the photo.

Thank you.

I run Windows Vista. And yes the entire picture is 2400 pixels in height not the image I am trying to cutout.
