Somber stare

I'm pretty new to photography, while I have been studying it for a little over a year, I have always had an interest\passion for it.
I find myself drawn to B\W photographs, both digital and film more than color. I'm posting on the black and white gallery so I can get feedback on how to improve my b\w images. Thank you for looking and please feel free to comment freely.

I shot them with a nikkor 24-70mm f2.8 at ISO 400 f5.6 1\125s

Great frames! Would have loved to see more Separation from the background (especially on frame 1, and I'm talking about lighting). I don't know if you were shooting 5.6 to get detail, but in my experience with the nikkor 24-70, you could have opened up a little more, added some MORE separation (which, focus wise you already did pretty well on) and still had great detail, you just would have had to be more careful with your focus! Love what you have there!
