Some please help? - shadow needed

I need some help I have been trying on GIMP to try get a shadow on the right side and I can't at all. I even tried painting a big black patch and trying to blend it into the picture that didn't turn out to well.

Can someone please help me with it I need it very soon because I need it printed like in the next few minutes. Could you also explain how you did it and in what program?

It needs to be like this:

just retake the picture, and only light the cat from one side.

 

[Harmony]

retake the picture with the cat in focus. light it from the left side and add a gradiant from right to left in GIMP.

This is not an easy task, you need software that will do layers and you need to be reasonably good at masking.

My guess a reasonable result would take a fairly proficient worker an hour.

There is an excellent example of this in Scott Kelby's book on PS CS3.
