Cliffnotes: Father works at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station does processing for some NASA stuff, gets a visitor pass that puts us a stone's throw away from this thing. Most of you have never been this close, it is ****ing HUGE. I couldn't fit it all on a 28mm lens next to it. I think a 10mm lens might have gotten a full side profile of it. It is absolutely monolithic. Imagine an 8 or 10 story building on tracks rolling past you at 1mph. That's about how big the Space Shuttle is.

We were close enough to be able to throw one of my lenses to the workers on the top deck, if I wanted to.

This was the last night roll-out for the Space Shuttle Program, there will be no more after this.

Awesome stuff! Very jealous as well, i've always wanted to see a shuttle launch, and i'm running out of time.

Fantastic. I'll have to wait future launches of space missions to get photos. Probably about 2030 when my 5 year-old becaomes and astronaut. She's determined to make it to Mars! You know, she might just do it!

Man, that some alright stuff! Thanks for posting the shots man....I enjoyed seeing those!

Cool.

Looks like you made the best of a once in a lifetime opportunity.

There are a lot of people that wish they were in your shoes for this......... A LOT of people. (myself included)

Don't hesitate to take the opportunity to rub it in. ;)

do you see that green glow on the northern horizon?

no? squint a little and wait until it's dark...

see it?

yeahhhhhh, that's my jealousy. lol

 yeah, mine too!

Awesome, I'd love just to witness this!

nice set. thanks for sharing

Thanks

I've been rubbing it in on /p/ over on 4chan, there's a couple people who are all like "ah what a wasted photographer spot" "you took the best subject in the world and still managed to mess it up" I'm all like "Well at least we know who is super jealous because they didn't get passes to history being written." Lol

It was absolutely magnificent if I ever have children I'll be telling them about this.

Will have a few more shots up later today. Those of you who haven't seen a Shuttle launch, COME TO FLORIDA AND SEE ONE there's only like 2 left after this one, April and maybe one in August. COME SEE HISTORY get a plane ticket and do it. You can do all the tourist **** in a couple days go to the Space Center and get the all-access pass at the Visitor Complex, the tour with the most access. Come see what it was like when the United States had the world by the cajones. There is a fully-disassembled Saturn V rocket on display not far from Complex 39.

The Space Center should be at the top 5 of everypne's bucket lists, when our civilization has come to pass and the next one takes over they will not remember us for Lady Gaga and McDonald's, we will be remembered as the first species that left their planet.

Great shots.

Regards,
Jake

Lovely shots :) Another one who's a wee bit jealous!

#3 and #4 are my favorite.
i like the shadow on the building in #4. not an angle normally seen of the shuttle.
very nice.

I remember walking over to the boys room while it was coming out of the VAB and hearing the beginning theme to 2001: A Space Odyssey playing in someone's car. That almost brought a tear to my eye, it was that awesome.
