here are a few from today, I took today to take an hour trip down to a local swamp area, its the head of a large lake in the area, fed by 2 large rivers, this swamp covers many many square miles, and is full of wildlife, this was my first time there, I paddled around for about 5 hours probably, pretty sore now, but got a few decent photos, and really got to know the area a bit better, hopefully next time I will find one of the "house on the water" in the swamp, there are these little floating shacks and I know at least one of them is a spot for anyone to use. pretty cool, in the middle of no-where really

1) a shot from my yak using a 24mm lens

2)some double crested cormorants in flight, there were probably 30+ of these birds, while they are pretty common, I don't think I have seen that many together, I heard one rounding them up, maybe a male making a ton of noise, never seen that behavior from this bird before

3) no idea what this thing was, but im not going to touch it...

4) probably my favorite photo of the day, I hoped to see the yellow crowned night heron. they are somewhat uncommon shy herons, this one did let me get pretty close and take some photos of him/her. this swamp is actually known for a lot of these birds nesting in it, I think DNR estimated 900 or so nesting or breeding night herons in the whole swamp, pretty good for a somewhat rare bird.

5) on the way paddling back to the ramp, I found an osprey nest, this osprey circled the nest with his/her alarm call, to tell the mate that I was near by.

6) another photo of the osprey

7) and another

8) some type of warbler I think, im not so good with the smaller warbler birds, there are a lot of them that look similar, but these little guys don't stick around very long

9) a snake I came across. I don't know much about snakes but google images makes me think this is just some watersnake, this swamp is mostly full of non-venomous watersnakes, yet one native did find one channel to have a few cotton mouths.

nice! I like the heron shot too, and the snake looking at you from post #2

I hate snakes, but I can appreciate photos of them, when I sit across the room that is.

All very nice! I envy you the opportunity even while understanding that I live in a target rich environment also. Must get out there. well done!

At the moment i have no job, so im taking advantage while i have time cause in the future i know i won't have as much time for photography

live it up while you can, I have a 60hr/wk job I'm at at night and run a business during the day, I'm lucky if I can go shooting for pleasure 1-2 times a month, its a real drag sometimes.

I've been diggin' your shots though keep posting them up!

Wow. You captured some amazing shots today. I really like #2 and #4.
