Sparrows in the tree

Today I thought I'd try what is often discussed as a bad idea. Specifically I mated a Kenko 1.4 with a nikon 70-300 f/4.5-5.6 @ 300mm and then set my D750 to crop mode. That gave me an effective focal length of over 600mm but at what cost in IQ. I was a bit surprised.
