We have the nikkor 70-300 VRII and have used it twice. it sits in the spare camera bag. but it IS a pretty good lens as a cheaper, not-quite-as-good alternative to the 70-200. you can pick them up pretty cheap now. I see them on craigslist in my area for around $350.
