I agree it's about roots thats why i think it would've made a better photo if shot from a different angle where there's less sky,trunk ,.Its hard to tell that your main subject is the roots.

Agreed. Very interesting overall composition, but the over-surreal effect is distracting. They way you processed the highlight toning in the sky and the shadow toning in the foreground came off too 'ashy'.

Thanks to all for your comments. You've confirmed what I suspected and that is that I am making a couple of noob mistakes: over sharpening and over processing. I intend to work to correct these mistakes. Any recommendations?

Go back and reshoot because that looks like one hell of a location
