Star Wars Collectibles......... WTF? I'm in over my head.

In the very near future I will be falling into a storage unit full of Starwars Collectibles. From what I understand this will be from all 6 movies, and include everything from storebought figurines to gas station advertising pieces and everthing in between.

The person that collected this junk...... er...... I mean highly collectible swag took great care in the selection of these items, allegedly spending hours at shops looking for the one offs, misprints and rare items. Everything is "mint in the package" or has a damn good reason not to be.

My dilemma.....

I know nothing about this stuff. It is WAAAAAY outside of my comfort zone. I will be looking to sell it all to try and raise the money to get my house carpeted. Does anyone here know of a better venue than ebay to price this stuff out, or what I need to be looking for so I don't shoot myself in the foot when selling it?

I realize I could just go to eBay and type in "Bobafet in package" and get a price. What eBay won't tell me is that the toy i have has a misprinted word in the third sentence, fourth paragraph on the back making it ten times more valuable than it's grammatically correct brother etc. etc. etc.

Any advice would be helpful.

Sure! That is if you doneate new carpet and installation to me.............To be honest, I have no idea what is in the locker. It will be kind of like storage wars meets American pickers. I will keep you posted.

I will keep you informed as to what I find. If there are enough (and there should be, I have heard tales of a 5 gallon bucket filled with loose action figures) I will be making a Storm trooper Kickline. I've always wanted one of those. The rest are up for grabs for either cash or.... er...... "trade"

You can place any information you want on E-Bay to go with the figure.


Also, if you have the time sell them separately and not as a large group. You will realize greater profits. You can research on google their values and price accordingly as your reserve price. Lots of info and pricing books out there.

I appreciate that. I will most definitely be selling them seperately, as I have substantially more time than money. My concern is with the subtle diferences. For example, with baseball cards and coins, a specimin with an almost undectable misprint or eror can be worth ten times the same one without it. I wouldn't know where to begin to look for that.

Will it be clearly spelled out for me..... or are there going to be some tricks that I need to know about?

But seriously, if you find a storm trooper (or Vader!) mask, I want it.

I will keep my eyes open....... but getting something like that away from the kids might prove to be difficult.

Yeah, I thought of luring one of the lonely basement dwellers at the local gaming shops back to my house for just that purpose...... Might be worth the first edition copy of "how to swear in Clingon" i would have to trade fro the servcies.....

I'd see if you can get it properly appraised. Find the real value, that way you don't get shanked. These are things you may not know a whole lot about as far as rarity or value, so having someone who does know will go a long way.

+1 from what you say its sounds like a pretty professional bit of work collecting so getting it properly appraised would be essential to really know the actual worth of what you have. As you say its a lockup I'm imagining a pretty big haul of stuff and you might even find that you can get it sold (minus commission) through a special dealers. That might well not only get the items sold faster, but also have a greater chance of hitting the right market and thus netting a bigger potential profit .

I'll ask around the geek groups I'm on and see if there are any big dealers that you could be pointed toward for such a setup
