I think this would be helped by brightening the area of the fireplace. It would help balance the scene a little bit more.
As it looks now, the dark space pulls my eye away more than it should.

I agree. Brighten the fireplace just a little but crop about half of it out. You want it to complement but not take away from the subject.

A little too victorian/appeal to tradition for my taste. Not a bad image, just not my thing.

Wow, definetely not what I expected from the title when I clicked in, but I really like it. It crisp and detailed, but not in a way that takes away from the subject. And the fact that she's got a floral pattern dress just kind of makes it melt right into the environment. I wonder what it would look like in Sepia tone.
