Stoking The Furnace ~ This Junco is seen eating seed that I put out to aid the birds in boosting their caloric intake of fats. The food will help in keeping their "internal furnace" regulated metabolically. Feathers fluffed out, the layer of air trapped betwixt their body and the cold air surrounding it, will aid in keeping the bird from freezing during our first big storm of winter.
