There are times when I think black and white produces better portraits than colour in the same circumstance. Comments...?

Agree. Color is what streams at us non-stop. The options for b&w post-processing are under-used IMHO. I'm trying to go back to scanned 120 b&w negs for portraits. The "look" usually gets a surprisingly long examination and puzzled comments about the rarity of b&w, especially for portraits, informal or otherwise.
A very nice composition BTW!

How's it going John? Your subject's wisdom is very much coming through here.

Very nice shot, I see B&W as showing more ‘soul’ and this picture certainly exemplifies that. By removing the most ‘distracting’ thing from the picture (colour) the viewer is then forced to concentrate on the subject/composition.
I think this applies especially today with the neon jangling (and often totally false) colours that are introduced commonly in post. I’ve only been playing with B&W recently but am hooked.

Thanks all for the comment.
I agree @wobe. B/W also seems to show off texture in a more satisfying way.
