I just got a new Nikon D60, so I wanted to test it out. I went to the top of a parking deck in downtown Greensboro, NC and this came out...

C&C please.

Congrats on the new camera.

If you had waited another twenty minutes or so, I bet you would have had a much more colorful sky as the sun sank below the horizon. You could have had a longer shutter speed / smaller aperture to capture all the glorious colors as the light bouncing off the clouds and still have enough ambient light to get more detail in the foreground.

One more note, the horizon is centered (and tilted) in the frame. As a rule of thumb (made to be broken), it is usually more pleasing to have the horizon in either the top or lower third of the frame. You also would reduce / eliminate the lens flare.

Keep at it.

From another Tarheel.

Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely do a longer exposure next time.

I centered the sunset because I wanted to showcase both the city's rooftops and the darkness that was coming (I.e. Dark clouds)... Otherwise I would've had shown more of the rooftops and the sunset in the top third.
