Hi All I am thinking of getting a Canon 1.4x mkII Tele Converter, and I was wondering about using it on non-L lenses by putting an extension tube between the lense and the extender. Will this work? In theory I think it will, but AF might be hit and miss, depending on the lense. I think I will also loose infinity focus, but in some situations I can live without that. Let me know what you think! Thanks
As far as I can figure it...it should work...but yes, you would loose infinity, and probably auto focus (due to the lack of light). So what you would end up with would be a longer macro lens...if that works for you, then try it out.
just buy another 1.4x converter, either the Tamron one or the Kenko Teleplus Pro one, it will give just as good results but still focus at infinity
Thanks Big Mike. That is what I expected. Lost Prophet - If only money grew on trees!! Some day though. Cheers
You do realise that the Tamron and Teleplus converters are about half the price of the Canon ones don't you? Well they are here in the UK Having used both Canon tube's and a Canon extender on a Canon 70-200 2.8 IS I can tell you you'd be better off with just a 1.4. The focussing range will become limited. Its good for close up work but not a lot of good for anything else
Thanks LP I have the Canon 1.4x TC already, but was thinking about trying it on another lense. I'll just have to do some experimenting and see what happens. Cheers
My tamron teleconverter works great with the tamron lens I purchased with it BUT does ~not~ work with any of my Canon lenses. Albeit my Tamron converter is old but I wouldn't assume the Tamron and Canon converters are equivalents.
