I shot a D200 and 50 1.8 for several years and can never remember as ugly and distracting an oof background as this.
The subject is great, if you can go back and do something to un-ugly the background.

Heavy processing, black and white takes away some of the juxtaposition between the traditional instrument and the non-traditional clothing, not the best angle for the shot, IMO- both the for the subject, and because the background is distracting.

Worry more about the composition of the picture and less about post-processing and treatments. The latter is dressing only, and no amount of dressing can cover the taste of a burned meal.
