I used Adobe Lightroom 3 to convert the image into five "separate" images, at exposures -2, -1, 0, 1, 2 (a typical one stop 5-bracket HDR), then processed them in photomatix pro, adjusted the sliders to my liking, took it back into LR3 and tweaked the contrast, then voila. Not a tough process, and as you can see, the results are well worth the few minutes it took.
