Waiting on a back road I pulled out the camera and slapped on the 50mm and tried my hand at B&W.

DoF is too shallow and it's focused on the part of the car farthest away. It kind of feels like you just missed the focus, and the OOF section in the foreground is quite distracting.

I probably could have stepped back farther and got the top and the bottom of the car some breathing room in the frame, but it was more just dicking around with an 85mm and admiring my grandfather's new convertible.

As far as the Nissan goes, there isn't alot of contrast between the car and the road and for me it kinda just looks like a big black blobish thing.

Don't worry Tyler it's only a volvo there isn't much to appritiate :biglaugh:

Yeah I think I did that at a 1.8. I am sure I should have opened it up a lot more. Thank you for the input.

This is another I did. Not sure if that is any better, still shooting at 1.8 ap

No, you should have stopped it down a bit more. You can't open it up any wider than f/1.8.

Really? I must have it backwards then. I thought the 1.8 aperture was the most narrow you could go, and as I went up the more depth of field I would have.

No, the smaller the number, the wider the lens opening. Aperture is related to focal length. Lets say you have your 50mm lens, and you shoot it at f/2, to find the size of your lens opening, you would do 50(mm)/2 = 25mm.

Therefore, at f/2 on a 50mm lens, the opening in the aperture diaphragm is 25mm. If it's at f/1.8, the lens opening is 27.778mm. At f/10, the opening in the lens is 5mm.
