Another poster did a fantastic job on a B&W of the common dandelion. Prompted me to pull out the macro for one in color. Also used this as a learning exercise, by using an LED penlight to paint the image, while using a long exposure.

Thank you. I've been experimenting more with a little LED penlight as supplemental light after seeing the successes others have had. Seems to provide nice even lighting while cutting down on hot spots.

Not sure I'd go that far! LOL Thank you for the kind words though. As I said in the OP I can't take credit for the subject idea. Sometimes it's easy to overlook the mundane.

Can you tell us more about the LED penlight? Accessories like that always intrigue me and I am really open to new ideas and new ways of looking at "old" things.

The penlights are cheap. I think this one was only a couple bucks at Harbor Freight. 6 leds. I set up the camera on a tripod, used a long shutter (on timer), and adjusted the aperture until the meter registered about 2 stops under. When the shutter opened I used the penlight like a brush to paint the subject. By constantly moving the light it alleviates hot spots and provides a nice even illumination. I always shoot a WB target at the start then adjust to that in LR, as the light tends to be very cool.
