The dreaded Error 01/99 Whats your take?

Any Canon owner knows this frustration:
Error 99 or Error 01.
I have read many many articles and complaining forms about this problem with one common element to them all.
The same issue has popped up on various lenses from many makers including OEM lenses on all of my Canons.
The common theme seems to be a problem with the aperture at specific focal lengths if the lens is a zoom.

now this is different from the chip issue which was long identified ago that certain lenses were incompatible with newer cameras and seemed to affect mostly Sigma. (There are variations to the theme).


As of late I had the problem with my 35-350 (may it rest in pieces.) And two Tikonas, a Sigma and a lens mounted with a M42.

So what is your take on the Myth, the legend, the odd stories?
