These two islands are located in the bay of Kotor, Montenegro.
The Island of the Living is an artificial island. There used to be only few rocks jutting out of the sea. Over the centuries and many wars, the locals would capture enemy/pirate ships, fill them with rocks and sink them here. Little by little, an island formed and the locals built a church called Our Lady of the Rocks. Every Summer, there is a celebration of The Lady where the locals row their boats (no engines) and throw rocks into the sea. So in a way, the island is still growing.
The Island of the Dead is a cemetery for the local priests. It is closed to the public but many, many years ago I had a chance to visit as my granddad was a good friend with a local priest. Very quiet and serene place.
