The Wreckage of the "Peter Iredale "

this image was recently taken while in Oregon,,
" The Peter Iredale was a four-masted steel barque sailing vessel that ran ashore October 25, 1906, on the Oregon coast en route to the Columbia River. It was abandoned on Clatsop Spit near Fort Stevens in Warrenton about four miles (6 km) south of the Columbia River channel. Wreckage is still visible, making it a popular tourist attraction as one of the most accessible shipwrecks of the Graveyard of the Pacific."

Great pic! I'm surprised there is still that much left! Last time I was there there was only about half that showing. This would be an annual stop (along with Ft Stevens) for me as a kid and I would spend hours climbing on it.

My Daughter ( pictured in my avatar ) gave me a wonderful photo trip for my birthday, she and I flew into Seattle Washington then went NW to the coast, down through the beach's and into Oregon where I had seen this wreck on a video so we decided to stop and see this and the fort, then we went over to Mnt St Helens and Mnt Rainier then back to Seattle,, what a WONDERFUL trip !! The cloud coverage took over at the Coastal area but still it was great !!

we had a blast !! good quality time with my Daughter, we camped every night, sat around the campfire had some wine and beer, saw alot of really cool sites, we wanted to camp right on the beach's and get some awesome sunsets but clouds did not cooperate with that plan, the coastal area was pretty much locked in with a heavy mist/cloud which I am told is typical around that time of year

Do they still have the chipmunks (or ground squirrels as they call them) that climb up your leg at Mt. St Helens? Last time I was there I had one steal my food out of my hand. Sounds like you had a great trip! There are so many gorgeous areas in the NW, I can't wait to move out there!

I really like this composition. I like the full tonal range ... all the zones ... the black in the sand ... my only nit is it appears that you may have slightly over dodged the ship. Overall well done!

PS- and maybe a little highlight dodging in the lower right hand area ... lighten up some that foam for greater contrast ... just a tad.

Nice, I really like shipwrecks though some are difficult to photograph. This one looks really cool though.

there certainly were lots of chipmunks running all over there,, we didnt have any climb up our leg but did see some bravely moving in on a young couple having lunch there lol

Thanks Gary,, I used the "Radial filter " in LR 5 when I processed this on the ship and now wish I hadnt, I should have done some luminosity painting instead with luminosity masks,, If I ever decide to print this I would definitely go back and rework especially around the ship, I like your idea about the lower right region too
