As the title states, I really don't like this photo, but I love the color.

It's not THAT bad.

"This is The Captain Speaking: Sliders, move to the right-hand side of your respective control panels! Sliders, move to the right hand side!!!!"

lol....

Yeah. The picture has no real center of interest except the exaggerated colors seen against all that brownish sea vegetation, and that wide-angle look makes it fall off to nothing in like less than 10 feet. it's just a wide-angle-y view of the shore and some rocks and stuff. I have tons of this kind of stuff in my personal archive, 'cept it's been shot with a 35mm lens...I think it is the powerful beauty of the seashore and nature that compels us to press the button, even though the view through the finder might not be "all that it can be". I know I seldom pass up situations like this, always hoping what I see will make a good pic.

Today I grabbed my bag with the mindset "it's high noon and nothing will be that interesting, but I'll shoot anyway." Sometimes I just like to walk and shoot. Even if I post nothing, I still like the shooting action. It's like practice, and fun.

Yeah, it's like that episode of The Photo Forum, NCS*. Guy gets a new high-res camera, heads out whenever the wind changes to, cough, cough, "Document the shift in the wind in high-res glory!"

You saw that episode, right???

And I thought he just put his lens on backwards which got him those color shifts .... what do I know ....

Ok, so phase two get a picture that rocks but the color sucks, then put them all together and Bam!

Lol

Try Edward Steichen's stuff. Or even Henri Cartier Breason. Great work but nobody told them that black and white is so pretentious. Hahaha

That's definitely a main factor. Like the sunset photo last night was planned. I had a photo in mine, found a spot/composition to make it so, and captured and edits exactly how I planned. Today was a "oh. That looks nice. I'll photograph it." Type day. Sometimes it's relaxing to just take snapshots for the sake of it. Even if they never make it to the interwebs or social spheres, I still like the act of walking and shooting. Definitely exacerbated by NCS.

I actually think that NCS can, and often is, a GOOD thing. For realz. It can stimulate or motivate or inspire a person to try some new stuff, and once in a while, like when you "step up" to significantly updated,more-capable equipment, the whole New Camera Syndrome can really stimulate/motivate/inspire, at least for a time period. Like, for example, when d-slr's finally got video, a lot of people used that as a way to, well, learn more about shooting and editing video. Once people got into the "new sensor" tech, in which long, night-time exposures were not utterly ruined by big heat-induced sensor bloom, then night photography for regular folks kind of took off. It was NOT that long ago that night-time, long exposure shots done in single exposure on d-slr, were not very good, but times have changed. Now we have a LOT of people who have started in on that type of work, and are getting pretty good at what once was only for experts.

I stayed wayyyyyyy too long with outdated cameras from the mid-2000's, a D2x and a 5D classic setup...my images and my capabilities and my ease of shooting, and my ability to handle uncontrolled outdooor daylight went through the roof when I dropped the 5D and went to the D3x. I instantly was much more-motivated and my shots were better in one day because I no longer had the dynamic range limits or the crappy AF system in lower, indoor light to fight all the time. The D2x was a nightmare at above ISO 250 in real daylight, an under artificial narrow spectrum light was utter rubbish.

So...enjoy the heck out of the NCS phase, D-B-J!!! It's summertime, and the livin' is easy! Let the NCS wave take you someplace!

I will. You bet your a** I will.

I think some day in the future, we will all be glad for even the not-so-good photos we have taken. You can relive a lot of moments looking back at your photo archives.
