If you were to describe your style and skill as a photographer, what would you say and why? I'll go first... I don't yet have a style, still learning a lot about photography in general. I'm sure at some point it'll zero in on a particular way of doing things.. I'm still in school for it, so as for skill.. just a student. :)

Rate yourself in any way you feel is honest... (I know right? This is gonna be fun.. mwahahaha)

Is wannabe a style? I am right there with you Shooter. I am still learning, but I think I've gotten past that I don't know what I don't know stage.

I'm a guy. I own gear. I take photos I like. Sometimes, I sell one. On the business end, I have an exclusive niche.

Hmmm I'd say I'm eclectically learning my style still, I'm all over the place.

I'm not sure I could describe my style. I used to take live concert photos of artists that looked like portraits, but not so much anymore.

As a photographer (dealing with light, composition, etc), I think I'm very good; maybe an 8 or 9 on a scale of 1 to 10. Where I fall short is in the area of post-processing. I'm not at all well versed in Photoshop, and can do only the most rudimentary of tasks. Layers? Man, the only layers I know how to deal with are in a cake. Seriously. I suck at Photoshop...

Photoshop is damn powerful.. it's no mystery why it has such a steep learning curve. Had a friend say to me recently .. "I don't need that, I have Paint. "

:lmao:

I am world-class at knowing how to sight thru the peephole at the back, and aim the lens away from my forehead! I often say, " I am the world's best photographer when the photos are displayed on my camera's LCD screen." I tell ya' what, on the LCD, all my pics look freakin' awesome! But somehow, when I get them into the computer, some electronic gremlins manage to conspire against me, and ruin some of my pictures, and make 'em fuzzy, or a bit overexposed. Sometimes the shake gremlins show up when I hand-hold at ridiculous speeds like 1/4 second. I have the split-second timing and reflexes of a rhesus monkey. I have the stamina of a grasshopper. I have the keen eyes of a 50 year-old man who needs bifocals. All in all, I am the total package.

I guess from comments I get from others that my usual style is something along the lines of: "Hyper-realistic-bold-color-usually-too(2)-much-processing-for-reality-purists". I'll call it, "Hyper-Bold 2" for short. ;)

As to skill, I would say I'm "mostly competent", with occasional stretches of mediocrity, punctuated by short bursts of total suckage and sporadic moments of excellence.

My style would be "Open minded" as I enjoy shooting most everything. My skill level would be "hobbyist". I know thats not really a skill level but it covers the fact that I am not a pro. Although I have been known to shoot in Manual and Raw from time to time.

I enjoy framing and releasing the shutter, at the right moment if I'm lucky. I dabble in basic post processing.

I like to experiment, I have been doing macro for a while, but i would say that my style is seize the opportunity, I like everything!
I learned a few things and consider myself an eternal student. Like Ronlane, I can say that I now know what I don't know or don't want to take the time to learn.
I shoot raw, and manual and use photoshop and know about layers and masks.
I shot my first wedding, I just received extension tubes.... but cannot stop to do only one thing. I am not a pro, just enjoying myself!

I have a very simple style, which is reflected in the uncomplicated equipment and techniques I use, and straighforward approach I take. I like to get at the essence of a subject, or at least what I think is at the heart of the matter.

I'm a "get close and shoot wide" kind of photojournalist.

Skill level, I'd say I'm pretty ok.

I am good with a camera and pretty much the same with PPing.
My style is to to shoot shoot for meaning rather than design and happy with one good to great shot out of 500 or 1,000 depending on the situation.

But.... the false modesty and the 'aw shucks, you may think I'm terrific but I'm just folks like you' of some of the answers just make me laugh.
