Took a walk through downtown Boise this morning. CC pls! ~5 pics~

My first chance since getting this camera to shoot during/after sunrise... Had a hard time finding things that caught my eye.

1. f3.5 1/400 ISO100 18mm

2. f5.6 1/100 ISO100 45mm

3. f5.6 1/40 ISO100 110mm

4. f3.5 1/250 ISO100 18mm

5. f5.6 1/200 ISO100 160mm (no idea what kind of plant this is)

These are the 5 that I like out of about 50 I took this morning. and let me just say, changing lenses when it's 24 degrees out is kinda lame.

#1 What is the focal point? I travel between the monument and the capitol in the background

#2 Blown out sky in upper right, a polarizing filter would have cut that down as well as bring out the greens and blues.

#3 Is good especially like the porta potty.

#4 Is good also again a filter would help with the sky.

#5 Again a filer and perhaps a lens hood to keep the flare down.

#2 Yea, I was shooting directly into the sun.

#5 I kinda like the lens flare. Oh and I was using the lens hood also.

Thanks for the tips, anything helps! Now I'm going to look up polarizing filters.

well, taking a better look at number 3, focus is off, my eyes keeps going to the background but its out of focus.

It depends on the subject.
I would have focused in the car, and raise the iso to get a faster shutter speed.

Filters are specific to each lens. Your lens has threads on the end where the filter screws on. Lens should have the size on it, like 52mm, 62mm etc.

I like 3 and 4, with 5 seems over exposed not just bad flare. I would have upped the stop more.

Imo the focus up front and the car out of focus in the backgrond make me like #3. I would rather the car not be the focus point, just too normal and would make it blah

Also just a little tip. Seems like your running you lens wide upon in all pictures. Let me guess your lens is variable 3.5-5.6. Most lens dont perform their best at wide open. Try stopping up 1 stop over max and shutter down a few speeds or sliggtly bump the iso. You may get cleaner images

1) Maybe re-composing the shot would help ? Exposures perfect, but that's just me. I like what you're trying to tell.
2) Over-exposed. A filter would help. (filters are lens specific, I believe). And if you could ever re-compose this shot. Now i don't know if you meant to put the couple walking together in the shot, but it adds a little story. If you ever re-shot, put a little more emphasis on the/a couple walking.
3) This one doesn't speak to me... but it's a good shot.
4) I like this. The composition is creative. The billboard has a message. It looks like the shutter speed could be lowered a little bit.
5) This is creative and I agree with you, the lens flare just adds to the picture. It does seem a little dimmed, but still good.

Keep in mind, my opinion isn't professional.

#2 Pulling at strings with this one, was desperate to find something to shoot.

#4 Thanks. Hendrix is actually made of pieces of mirror... Not sure if that shows.
#5 It's probably something that can be tweaked in post but alas, I'm noob when it comes to editing. I was just thankful I could find something to macro in the morning light.

Thanks for the tip, I tend to forget to try different ways to get good exposures once I leave the house. :blushing:
