I was walking home along 34th St from BHPhoto, having escaped the store without spending gross amounts of money. I did play with the Leica Q2 and was sorely tempted.

In mid-town there seems always to be streets being torn up to fix/replace pipes
and this construction generalize uses raw lumber as supports for trenches.
That means that the wood hasn't been planed down to the final dimensions usual sold in lumber yards. It seems that this final milling and planing takes away a great deal of the scented portion of the lumber.
So, walking past these work areas where this raw wood is used as support and is cut, one often passes through the smells of a pine forest and fresh cut wood.

The second photo is a unanticipated but welcome benefit to the casual male photographer passing through Herald Square.

Sometimes it is impossible not to love NYC.

I love the smell of freshly cut pine. I used to do electrical maintenance, repairs and breakdown work at a number of timber yards and always loved that aroma.
